It is now estimated that around the world more than 600 million people are online. Competition between browser vendors is as rife as ever.
The two browsers which dominate the market are Netscape and Internet Explorer (IE). Over recent years, Netscape has been loosing market to IE. Mozilla and Opera, although not players on the same scale, are reasonably common.
There are a host of other browsers including Amaya, Emacs/W3, HotJava, iCab, and Lynx.
Web browsing is not confined to using a computer. Mobile phones, PDAs (Portable Digital Assistant) and digital TV are becoming increasingly common and the browser vendors have already turned their attention to these devices.
