Podcast: A walking tour of radical journalism in Manchester, from 1819 to today

I’m a firm believer that one of they keys to effective learning is to use more than one sense – there’s plenty of education research that backs this up. So when my colleague – Peter Murray – and I were thinking about how to ground the first year Journalism students in the city and its history of radical journalism, we thought that a podcast walking tour would be very worthwhile.

The podcast was made possible thanks to our interviewees – Helen Pidd – North of England Editor for The Guardian, Joshi Herrmann – Founder and Editor of The Manchester Mill, Conrad Bower – Co-Editor of The Meteor, and Kathy Davies – researcher on the history of The Manchester Guardian.

You can listen to the podcast below and, if you find yourself in Manchester, this accompanying map will be helpful.
