The photography of Carrie Branovan

I recently acquired an early John Galliano circle cut top and I feel veeerrry lucky to have it. This early period of a designer’s career is often  the most adventurous, a time when they have nothing to lose and a whole head of ideas brimming and bubbling away.

I think this is certainly the case with Galliano who, up to the Dior period, continually challenged ideas of pattern cutting and use of fabrics. Though much of his clothing is fabulous into the Dior period, post 1997 I suppose, it’s safer, more conscious of the reaction and marketability.

No surprise, it is business after all.

Anyway, I was going through an early promo box which contains images from his Fall/Winter 1987 collection when he was still new and still designing in London. The photos were taken in Wales by Carrie Branovan and I think some of them are breathtaking.
